California Vehicle Fleet Ranked in Top 100 Nationwide

california fleetCalifornia’s vehicle fleet has been ranked 18th greenest fleet among North American public sector fleets. It’s the third consecutive year in a row the state’s fleet has received such an honor.

Last year, the fleet ranked 12th, and in 2012 it ranked 16th.  The announcement was made during the yearly North American Green Fleet Forum in Sacramento this past October. All local, state, and federal government fleets are able to compete for the award, which takes into consideration policy and planning, fuel and emissions, education, employee involvement, fleet utilization, and overall fleet composition.

Two years ago, California Governor Jerry Brown mandated that by 2015 10 percent of non-emergency, light-duty vehicles in the state’s fleet would be electric. That number jumps to 25 percent in 2020.

Kansas City, Missouri, took home first place this year.
