Police Locate School Bus in Hit-and-Run With Tracking System

school Bus childrenCity officials in Belhaven, N.C., say an OnStar vehicle tracking system helped them track down a school bus that was the victim of a hit-and-run accident this week, reported WNCT/ CBS 9 News.

Police say the accident happened Monday morning. The bus was stopped to pick up children when it was hit. Police say the bus had its caution arm out at the time.

The other car kept going but its OnStar tracking system alerted the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office that a stationary vehicle was involved in an accident. The Onstar vehicle tracking system notifies the proper authorities in case you have an accident and are unable to phone for help yourself.

Sheriff’s deputies contacted Belhaven Police and through the OnStar information were able to find where the bus was. They were also able to find the other car involved.

Two children on the bus had minor injuries. As for the driver, he was not injured. He’s been charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run and a license restriction violation. Police also plan to charge him with passing a stopped school bus.
