Senator Charles Schumer of New York has introduced a bill that would make electronic stalking illegal, including GPS tracking. There are only a few exceptions, including parents who use tracking devices to keep tabs on their children and during investigations by law enforcement.Schumer moved forward with the bill to address two specific issues: placing a GPS tracking device underneath a person’s car and using an app to see someone’s exact location–although the bill as a whole examines all forms of GPS tracking. This bill is similar to Jackie’s Law, named after a New York woman who was stalked and killed at work by an ex-boyfriend. However, the bill Schumer introduced would be nationwide and extend beyond domestic violence.
