Houston Launches First Municipal Electric Fleet Vehicle Share

Houston is the first city in the nation to launch a program of this kind. Partnering with Zipcar, Houston will put 50 electric and hybrid vehicles on the road to promote the new EV green fleet sharing program.

Despite being known for oil production, Houston’s Mayor Annise Parker is trying to give the city a green boost. “We’re gaining momentum on being the energy capital through programs like Houston Fleet Share and the Houston Drives Electric initiative,” Parker says.

The State Energy Conservation Office American Recovery Reinvestment Act Transportation Program is funding the clean fleet initiative which will service about 300 drivers from 13 different city departments and hopes to add more cars to the fleet to service more drivers in the future.
