Frito-Lay, in a partnership with parent company PepsiCo, has embraced an alternative fuel fleet that includes both propane-powered and electric vehicles. The vehicles, which can be seen cruising around Ohio, have had a positive impact on how people see alternative-fuel fleet vehicles and fleet sustainability.
Fleet manager for the company’s mid-America region, Glenn Reynolds, explained how ““In 2007, Frito-Lay and PepsiCo began a concerted, nationwide effort to reduce emissions and conserve fuel,” as part of a campaign to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% come 2017.
The company enlisted a variety of partners to help develop and implement its program, including the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program, Clean Fuels Ohio, Ford Motor Company, and Smith Electric for 15 all-electric vehicles. Frito-Lay also worked with its long-time partner, Ferrell Gas, to secure additional propane fueling stations. Additionally, five EV charging stations were installed in Columbus for the new Smith Electric vehicles.
