Several Bay Area cities, counties, and water agencies collectively made one of the largest all-electric vehicle purchases in the country recently.
Two water agencies, two counties, and six cities joined forces to purchase 90 electric vehicles with the help of a grant from Metropolitan Transportation Commission to the tune of $2.8 million. The total cost of the fleet vehicles, which include Ford’s Focus and Nissan’s Leaf, was $5 million.
Over the next 5 years, the vehicles will save more than 2 millions pounds of carbon dioxide emissions and $500,000 in fuel costs according to Bay Area Climate Collaborative Executive Director Rafael Reyes.
