GPS Tracking and Social Media Combat Icy Roads

Share:

Springdale, AR is using social media and GPS tracking to let citizens know how hard crews are working to keep the snowy streets safe. The Springdale Facebook page shows which roads are good to go and which crews are working on.

Although social media is a great tool to spread the word, it would be useless without also using GPS tracking.  Every truck is equipped with a GPS tracking system and community engagement supervisor, Missha Wagoner, can see each truck moving along the roads on her computer screen. She explains the GPS system gives them the ability “to tell a resident where a truck has been at a certain time” in addition to tracking them in real time.

Every hour or so a new update is posted. Wagoner says, “We just felt that it was very important to let the community known exactly what’s out there and what we’re doing to help them.”
