The San Diego City Council unanimously voted in favor of the sponsorship that will funnel 34 new vehicles into the fleet over the next two years.
The sponsorship will save San Diego approximately $245,000 a year that normally would be spent on maintenance and upgrades to the aging fleet.
Lifeguards in San Diego are grateful for the sponsorship and hope the City Council will continue to help them secure funding for staffing and training. “We have to depend on the Council to get our budget and our things,” says Lifeguard Sgt. Ed Harris, “They’re a little closer to the issues. We anticipate that they’ll hopefully reach out and give us that hand that we need.”
