Garmin has introduced a new GPS watch designed specifically with triathletes in mind.
The Forerunner 930XT includes GPS tracking and navigation, but also monitors metrics for running, swimming, and biking that appear on the high-res display. Additionally, the watch is 18 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter with a hinged band designed for a more flexible and comfortable fit. Other basic features include steps, distance, calorie tracking, personalized daily goals, and sleep tracking. When paired with a Bluetooth device in range, it also receives alerts for incoming emails, texts, calls, and calendar alerts. Some of the sport-specific metrics the it tracks include distance, pace, stroke type and count as well as the ability to log drills and kick sets for swimmers. Runners can track features including vertical oscillation, cadence, and ground contact time. While cyclists can utilize the built-in altimeter and will also be able to receive GLONASS signals.
Dan Bartel, Garmin’s worldwide sales VP, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the new product, saying, “As a pioneer and leader in GPS multisport watches, we’re excited to introduce our most advanced all-in-one solution for triathlon training.”
Triathletes can pick up the watch in red/white or black/blue for $449. The heart-rate monitor bundle is available for $499.
