AT&T recently showcased its latest future-forward idea, luggage with GPS tracking. Smart Luggage is embedded with a GPS tracking system allowing the owner to keep tabs on the luggage’s whereabouts while in transit.
Automatic alerts will be sent to the owner’s smartphone when the luggage is off the plane or if the bag is moved out of the designated geo-fence. The corresponding app also allows the owner to light up an LED beacon on the luggage making it easy to find on the carousel.
Whether curious consumers will have to buy a new suitcase with the technology built-in like the one demoed, or will be able to buy a tracking device and attach it to their existing luggage is yet to be determined. Also undetermined? The release date and cost.
