Just weeks after introducing the electric E-Up, Volkswagen has announced plans to add a van version to its fleet that will use the same battery-powered drive train.
Although the company is still researching, it’s confident there is a need for an electric commercial van fleet. “The E-Load Up makes sense for businesses operating in big city locations where usage is below 100 miles and access to the growing number of clean air zones is a primary consideration,” said a factory official.
“As environmental considerations continue to change the market, we need to be in a position to offer suitable transport solutions,” added a VW UK Commercial Vehicles spokesman.
The battery will last up to 100 miles after a nine hour charge and a free wall-box charger can cut the charge time to six hours. Fast-charge equipment for the fleet vans will charge the battery to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.
