Oregon, MIT Testing ‘Little Brother’ App with GPS Tracking

The new app, inspired by GPS tracking ankle bracelets, has been developed exclusively for ex-cons. The idea came after one Oregon judge realized she was sentencing the same people over and over again because of failed drug tests and wondered if there was a solution to help the repeat offenders.

The app has different features designed to keep ex-cons out of jail like a schedule of Alcohol Anonymous meetings, where to find medical clinics, house assistance resources, and a crisis feature that calls for help immediately when activated.

Court officers will also be able to keep tabs on the probationer with a GPS tracking feature. Recruits from Oregon’s Reentry Court will be the first to test the app this summer.
