Fleet Managers Should Prep for Connected Car

Venson Automotive Solutions, a UK-based contract hire fleet company, is encouraging fleet owners to prepare for the impact of connected cars. After mobile phones and tablets, connected cars are forecast as the third fastest technology device, and tech bigwigs like Google, Microsoft, and Apple are all eyeing the automotive sector for expansion opportunities.

“It’s clear that technology is set to transform the motoring sector over the next few years,” said Simon Staton, director of client management at Venson Automotive Solutions, “Connected vehicles allow businesses to access even more driver and vehicle data, but firms will need to get the support of their staff and should consider the wealth of legal issues it will create.”

The BVRLA is calling for fleet businesses to ensure employee contracts cover connected vehicles, in addition to tablets and smart phones. Furthermore, fleet managers need to remain up-to-date on civil rights legislation and data protection regarding information collected and stored by vehicles.
