Big Boost in Electric and Hybrid Fleet Trucks by 2030

Commercial truck fleets will welcome an estimated 350,000 environmentally friendly vehicles by 2030.

Although electric vehicles have successfully entered the market and been embraced by consumers, commercial fleets have been more challenging. According to Navigant Research, “Government stimulus spending from 2008 to 2011 spurred R&D, production, and deployment of hybrid and plug-in commercial trucks, but demand has only recently begun to grow. According to a new report from Navigant Research, nearly 350,000 light, medium, and heavy-duty hybrid and electric trucks will be sold in the global commercial fleet market from 2013 through 2020.”

A rise in conventional fuel costs, as well as added benefits for electric fleets like the ability to provide onsite power and eliminate engine idling, are other factors Navigant foresees driving EV fleet growth in the next 16 years.
