Apple is rumored to be working on an electric vehicle that would be in direct competition with Tesla. What’s so big about that? It’s also rumored to be autonomous. Reuters is also reporting Apple is working on developing a software platform to run inside its new vehicle.
Supposedly Apple is less concerned with the actual manufacturing of the car and more resolute on developing the software platform. In true Apple fashion, the company has solicited help from experts, like Steve Zadesky, a former Ford engineer, according to the WSJ, but is going at it alone for the most part.
According to Reuters, Apple is essentially looking to create an ecosystem for the car the same way it has for phones that would include recharging services, hi-def mapping, and car-sharing. Whether Apple is looking to develop an entire fleet of cars, delivery vehicles, or a van for high-tech soccer moms everywhere, is still TBD.
