Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC Codes) are generated by your vehicle’s engine computer to provide you with details about malfunctioning vehicle components.
Your vehicle has multiple sensors throughout the engine, transmission, and drive train that are constantly capturing vehicle performance and health data. These sensors take the data that they capture and send it to the vehicle’s engine computer (often referred to as the ECM). The ECM then takes this data and triggers a generic “check engine” light message on the vehicle’s dashboard display. To read the actual DTC code, a device referred to as a scan tool must be plugged into the vehicle’s On Board Diagnostic Port (OBD-II port) by a mechanic. Unfortunately, fleet drivers often delay the reporting of the check engine light until the problem becomes so significant that the vehicle stops functioning properly. The delay often makes the problem more severe and more costly to repair.
Telematics devices offered by FieldLogix plug into the vehicle’s OBD-II port and have the ability to read the codes for fleet vehicles remotely. The codes are then emailed to the fleet managers and displayed in an on-line report. This saves fleet managers from costly repairs because they can review and determine the severity of the DTC code immediately. They can then decide whether they need to take action right away based on how critical the issue is.
You can search for the DTC code that your vehicle is triggering in the table below.
