GPS Data Reveals Users Search Most For McDonald’s, Starbucks, Walmart

GPS location based mobile phone search tracking data was recently used to reveal the most searched brand names in the U.S. This type of data gives insight into what drivers are searching for when they’re on a mobile phone or mobile device.

The GPS tracking data revealed that McDonald’s topped the chart as the number one searched restaurant, with more than twice as many searches as second place Subway. Taco Bell, KFC and Burger King rounded out the top five, respectively.

Last week TeleNav, Inc., a publicly traded wireless location-based services providers with more than 17 million subscribers released consumer usage data indicating the brands drivers are most actively searching for while on the road. A location-based service is an information and entertainment service, accessible with mobile devices through the mobile network and utilizing the ability to make use of the geographical position of the mobile device.

The top brands were identified by analyzing how frequently users entered the brand names as a keyword search within one of the company’s many mobile GPS navigation applications.
