AT&T announced earlier this week the launch of a child safety device called Amber Alert GPS that will allow parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts.

The lightweight GPS device is just 1.5 ounces and small enough for a child to carry in their pocket, backpack, or attached to a carabineer or lanyard. The device is controlled remotely using a mobile app or on a computer. Amber Alert GPS has several standout features including:

  • Zone Alerts—Set zones around school, home, extracurricular activities, etc. and receive a notification any time a child enters or exits a zone.
  • Speed Alerts—Select predetermined miles per hour and receive an alert anytime a child is in a vehicle exceeding the maximum speed.
  • Breadcrumbing—Send automatic updates on a child’s location based on a specified schedule.
  • SOS Button—Children can send an alert if they need help and parents can see their child’s location.

Other device features include low battery alerts, paging, SMS alerts, and predator alerts.

AT&T will be the exclusive provider for the Amber Alert GPS providing both billing and distribution services.
