Zion National Park and Pipe Spring National Monument, its sister park, are receiving a federal grant through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities National Parks Initiative to fund fuel-efficient and alternative fuel vehicles for the parks’ fleet.
The grant will allow the parks to replace three petroleum-powered vehicles in the fleet with two hybrid electric vehicles and one all-electric vehicle. Construction on the charging stations will begin as early as autumn and of the ten new charging stations that will be installed, five will be for public use.
The parks, in conjunction with Utah Clean Cities Coalition, will also promote fuel-efficient driving behaviors among visitors and staff alike.
