Cell Phone Tracking System Approved By Fort Worth City Council

The City Council of Fort Worth, TX has authorized the Police Department to purchase a portable system to track cellphones.

The new tracking system will “exponentially increase the ability” of police to “combat criminal activity.” Council members agreed to spend $184,000 for the new cell phone tracking system, reported the Star-Telegram.

Law enforcement wants to install the new tracking system because of Supreme Court’s recent decision about warrantless GPS tracking.

NY Atty. General Wants Prescription Drug Tracking System

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman visited Long Island this week to encourage the State Legislature to pass a bill creating a computer tracking system that will help combat the deadly epidemic of prescription drug abuse and its resulting crime wave.

Schneiderman wants to install a real-time tracking system with an online database enabling doctors and pharmacists to report and track prescriptions for the most commonly abused painkillers. The proposed tracking system and online database is called Internet System for Tracking Overprescribing, or I-STOP.
